Salt nutrients, also called synthetic or mineral nutrients, are water-soluble fertilizers that provide plants with immediately available nutrients.
WHAT ARE SALT NUTRIENTS?
Salt nutrients are manufactured fertilizers made from mineral salts that dissolve in water. Unlike organic nutrients, they do not rely on soil biology to become available and are absorbed directly by plant roots.
They are commonly used in hydroponic systems and container growing.
HOW THEY ARE USED BY GROWERS
Salt nutrients are typically:
- Mixed with water and fed on a schedule
- Applied during veg and flower stages
- Used with runoff to prevent buildup
- Paired with EC or PPM monitoring
They allow growers to precisely control feeding strength.
WHY THEY MATTER
Salt nutrients:
- Provide fast, predictable results
- Allow for quick corrections to deficiencies
- Offer precise nutrient control
- Are widely available and easy to scale
Many beginners start with salt nutrients due to accessibility and simplicity.
LIMITATIONS & NOTES
Salt nutrients can build up in soil over time if not managed properly. Overfeeding can lead to nutrient burn, lockout, or salt accumulation, especially in organic or living soil systems.
