WHAT IS LIVING SOIL?

Living soil is more than just dirt with nutrients added. It is a biologically active system made up of compost, organic matter, minerals, and beneficial microorganisms that cycle nutrients and make them available to plant roots.

Instead of feeding the plant directly, growers feed the soil, and the soil feeds the plant.

HOW IT’S USED

Living soil is commonly used:

Growers typically water with plain water and periodically add organic amendments.

WHY IT MATTERS

Living soil:

Because nutrients are released through biological processes, living soil can be easier to manage once established.

LIMITATIONS & NOTES

Living soil requires time to develop and maintain biology. Overwatering, poor aeration, or lack of organic matter can disrupt the soil food web. It also requires planning ahead, as nutrients are not instantly available.
